Description

This painting, “Adiyogi,” is my personal tribute to Lord Shiva. To me, he’s the original yogi, the ultimate ascetic, and a perfect blend of deep stillness and powerful energy. I was incredibly inspired by the giant Adiyogi statue at the Isha Foundation, and this piece is my own way of honoring him. It stands three feet tall, and I hope its spiritual presence feels just as big.

If you’re not familiar with him, Adiyogi isn’t just a god from mythology. He’s considered the very first yogi, the one who gave the science of yoga to the world. The story goes that thousands of years ago, he shared this knowledge with seven great sages, laying the groundwork for a spiritual path that’s touched countless lives across the globe. His presence is so calm, yet so powerful, and it has deeply shaped India’s spiritual heart.

Every brushstroke in this painting came from a place of deep devotion. Creating it was like a meditation for me—an act of surrendering to something divine. I used bold, realistic colors because I wanted to capture that grounded, majestic feeling Adiyogi has. You’ll see his eyes are half-closed, suggesting an inner quiet, while the hint of a smile on his lips speaks of a profound wisdom. I spent a lot of time layering the shadows and light to show both his incredible strength and that sense of peace that seems beyond words.

The size of the painting is intentional. I wanted it to have a strong presence in a room, but also to draw you in, to make you feel quiet and thoughtful. i have tried to capture the same essence of tranquility that i have felt every time I visited Isha foundation. shiva in the vast space facing slightly upward toward the open sky . its like he exist amongst us.

Ultimately, this painting is a reminder to look inward. It’s about tuning out the noise, calming the mind, and connecting with your higher self. In Indian spirituality, Shiva isn’t just some god out there; he’s a mirror of the potential for greatness within each of us. My hope is that this painting reflects that inner divinity back at you.

Whether it hangs in a home, a meditation corner, or a yoga studio, “Adiyogi” is more than just art—it’s a presence. It brings a quiet strength and a sacred energy to any space. I hope that through this piece, I can share a small echo of Adiyogi’s eternal silence and strength with you.
