Spent my childhood in the district of North 24 Parganas, located near Kolkata, and drew my inspiration from this exuberant City of Joy. Its bustling streets and vibrant colors, changing abruptly from day to day and season to season, never fail to excite me.
Among the vast cityscape of Kolkata, the humble tree inspires me the most, perfect in its imperfections. Trees invite new hopes and thoughts, motivating us to improve and rebuild ourselves, whatever the circumstances. No tree is the ‘perfect’ tree, for each is striking in its own respects. Each tree has its own personality, rather like us humans, and has its own story to tell.
The works of Vincent Van Gogh have roused me since childhood, and his elements remain very much alive within my paintings. All my pieces have their own character and individuality, each expressing my present state of mind. My art delves into our environment and the entropy it undergoes with the element of time, flowing steadily according to its own interests. Trees inspire us to emulate their steadiness and calmness in difficult situations. These two elements, I find, are being increasingly required in us humans to introspect and improve ourselves, though sadly growing rarer as time goes on. Like our society and its various sections, trees also grow sudden changes, though they adapt to them with care and patience.
Whether it be sorrow or joy, a depression or a celebration, a tree stands tall in the face of any situation. My art stands for everything we see daily, feel daily and experience daily from the viewpoint of the humble tree, a sentinel to the power of patience and perseverance in an ever-changing world.
